Bing Crosby's World War II-era recording of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" is the biggest selling record of all time, with more than 400 million copies sold. This is how it debuted on film in the 1942 movie Holiday Inn.

Why do you think this song was so popular during World War II?

I've listened to this song at Christmas every year since I was little! I think this is a very traditional American Christmas song and I also think it is amazing that this song is the number one selling song of ALL time!! This song can relate to so many people's Christmas in different ways...weather it's coming from someone missing their husband fighting in WW2 or even someone just wishing it would snow for once on Christmas morning.

White Christmas is one of my all time favorite christmas movies, but I had no idea this was the number one selling song of all time. Next christmas when I hear this song, I will definitely be thinking about when we learned about it in american studies.

It's crazy that this song was actually the #1 song of all time. I mean I think its an awesome song, but still, It's a Christmas song. I guess when the song came out, it ment a lot more than a song to the people who bought it. I guess it was hard times, many people were struggling to live, much less have a Christmas. I guess anything that will help get you through hard times, even a mellow Christmas song.

It's strange that I've listened to this song my whole life and never really understood the meaning of the lyrics. It's cool to know now that it's about veterans coming home for Christmas. I will remember that everytime I hear this video now.

I always hear this song in the winter, and never really thought or knew anything about it. Now I know the importance and the background.

i know ill sound lame for saying this, but i love this movie.

i watched it with my mom when i was sick last year and it was really good.

there wasnt any hidden meaning in the movie, it was just easy watching and it made me really like this song. seeing the movie might help make people enjoy the song more.

I still don't fully understand why this was such a popular record in the WWII Era... Was it because of the feeling of hope that people wanted??? Or can you explain it in more depth.......?

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
