Many people think that racism is an issue of the past. I think that our country has still not put it behind them. It may not be shown as directly at all, but there are lots of little and big things that show racism. People still make racist jokes and don't always fully trust other races. People are identifying people by there race and stereotyping. That is racist. The other day i was in gym class and we were playing basketball. We had to pick teams so we elected captains. The two captains went on opposite sides of the court and drafted kids one by one. Two african american boys from a different class asked if they could join our game. We needed two more guys for full court so it worked perfectly. The captains knew how talented each kid in the class was, so they strategically picked. . When each captain chose there first pick in the second round there new team mates gave them some advice. When I was observing a team pick there next player I saw and heard the other two agreeing together "Pick the black kid; he's got to be good." That right there is stereotyping and racist. How can we stop little things like this from happening? Will they ever stop?
Racism as definitely slowed down, but I feel that some caucasians may not trust other races and make snap judgments on them. The thing is america is a melting pot this is how our country started and will continue to be. Americans have absolutely no right to be racist this is just as much any immigrants land as it is ours. It is on the inside of each person that counts, like Jim from Huck Finn. He had a good character and that is what matters.
The way I have been trying to stop this is by looking at everyone on this planet as one thing. We are all humans and one is no better than the other. People like to identify with a race, but in the end it doesn't even matter.

What are some ways that you still see racism today?

I believe racism will not go away for a very long time. I'm Korean and most of my friends joke around with me, and it doesn't bother me, but when somebody I don't even know stereotypes me it gets me kinda angry and its really annoying. I did a speech on racism sophmore year, and in it i said that the only way racism will end is through people. If we want racism to end we have to start with the minds of the people. After all we are all part of one race. The human race.

Racism is something that has existed for many many years. The odds of it ever going away are near 0%. Hate will always exist, and with that will come racism. It's a form of hate in a sense and people will point at whoever there able to. Its sad that people result to racism in order to get the upper hand but thats the world we live in and something everyone will have to learn how to deal with.

I don't think racism will ever go away... Which sucks big time because we're alllllll equal. There really is no point to point the finger and laugh at someone who is maybe a different color than yourself. Its unfair. Its uncalled for. I don't where people got the idea that everyone is different because of there skin.

I also dont think racism will fo away. I think that as the years go on it willl slowly decrease but it will never be fully gone. There are always people out there that just can not changes or accept the truth. I feel a lot of the time people dont try to be racist but just the comments and jokes arent very necessary. It is an unfair view because no matter what race or gender all people are equal.

I don't think racism will go away. I think that we have to expose ourselves to other races and religions to fully understand. Knowledge and time will lessen racism. Matt is right as well when he says that we have to view everyone as individuals not a a group.

I think everyone is racist at some point but definitley not like it used to be. I don't think racism will become a big issuse as long as we remember that it's wrong to take it to the extreme.

Another thing I find interesting is that when caucasians say something bad about another race, they are being racists. But when another race says something bad about caucasians, it's not considered being racists. I don't quite understand that.

Im agreeing with robin here in the fact that everyone is a little racist, in making snap judgements about people whether you notice it or not. Racism today definitely is not what it used to be and i'm glad, when i hear about racism today its used in humorous ways, even myself making the common joke from time to time. This racism is only a problem if taken seriously like white supremacists or extremist, other than that minor racism differences should be the least of America's worries.

Racism will never obside in America, nor in any other country. People are technically racist all the time unintentionally, even by small things when you see another person of another race you instantly judge them no matter what, even if you don't notice it.

i think that racism is never going to leave the average american. This is because most people look for something to look down upon other people to make themselves feel more impowered. They use racial slurs to acheive this. Racism is just another form of a hate crime and isn't right for anyone.

Racism and stereotypes have been apart of out society for a long time. Racism and stereotypical comments can be perceived as gossip. Both are hurtful comments that leave scars behind. As of now, racism and stereotypes will never go away. Racism and stereotypes have become apart of society; however, I hope soon enough racism and stereotypical comments would be strictly thought of as cruelty instead of jokes. Racism and stereotypes are based on ethnicity, facial features, occupation, and more. One way to stop racism and stereotypes is to ignore the way a person looks or talks; view the person's personality. All of us are equal; no one deserves to be looked down upon because of their race.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
