Recently I wemt to Chicago. i visited the art museum when i was down there. While the day as a whole was fun, besides all the walking, but the art bothered me. i did not enjoy it. not all of it at least. art defines cultures and changes over time with people. some art is specific enough that it can be associated with one artist and some is general and doesnt even have any recognizable artists.

Who desides if something is good art or bad art? who desides that some oil on canvas or a big block of marble is worth tens or hundreds or thousands or even millions of dollars? to me art has to be simple. either make the world look simple or the actual design or layout simple. the things that i liked were like the Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass, that little wheat grass pattern or whatever it is, or the roman busts of the dictators or whatever they are. the whole thought of looking deeper than the surface for me doesnt make sence, and i honestly dont like it. like the pointalism in the video, theres way too much stuff goin on, way too many dots and the thought of actually painting with dots instead of strokes makes me frustrated because after awhile id lose patience. photos or painting with the red white and blue thing frustrate me too, unless its the actual focus and not a subtlty.i like art that has soothing colors. art is supposed to bring beauty, so if the piece makes you cringe or confused, why bother painting it? if it shows starving orphan children in the streets on ny thats not art thats an awareness campaign. my favorite thing i saw there was a painting by George Cope called Civil War Regalia of Major Levi Gheen McCauley.

i have no idea why its my favorite, it just is. i dont see any deep meaning i just like it. i guess nobody's opinion on art can be wrong, and even though i feel like nobody can convince me to change my opinions on it, id like to hear yours.

I must agree partially with Alison. Art is relative; to whom is a mystery, but the fact that something must be considered art by opinions of others is a bit extraneous. Art is the expression of one's feelings, emotions, boredom, or sincere satisfaction or appreciation. When I say art is relative, I mean that it should not have to be deemed art by others, but rather by the artist him or herself. Let's say I were to paint a picture of a carrot. To most, it could seem boring, dull, and uninteresting, but the viewer might not understand the background of where said carrot derived from. The same goes for abstract paintings: we may see a huge blob of paint on a canvas, but that image may be the most descriptive form one has of expressing one's self or experiences.

So, I think art is good. There is no wrong or right to it. Its just creativity. Some artists sit and paint dots because they enjoy it and are able to express their feelings through their art work. Look at Picasso, he has his blue period, pink period, and other periods that expressed how he felt throughout his art career. I sometimes think to myself why a certain type of piece of work would be worth so much or so well known but I think its because within a piece of work there is more than just colors and shapes; patterns, history, creativity, and emotions are all present within the piece of work. It interesting to hear about the message or meaning behind a painting
or other types of work.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. You don't have the artist there to explain what they were thinking most of the time. Whatever you like you like, can't change that much. Art doesn't have to be deep it often times it is easier to get more attention by making it "deep". People feel smart when they see hidden meanings or get the gimmick.

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
