When I was about 7 years old, during summer I was outside almost every day along with all the other kids in my neighborhood. But these days, I don’t see as many as I used to. Now they’re all inside on the computer, watching TV or playing video games and this can lead to serious health problems, not only now, but in the future.

Kids these days aren’t getting the proper amount of exercise. Statistics show that kids aren’t outside as much as they should be and exercise rates are dropping. Because kids have these bad habits, it affects them as they become teenagers and even adults. If someone rarely exercised as a kid, it’s going to be a lot harder for them to change habits as they become adults, rather than if someone routinely exercised as a kid, it would be easy to keep those habits as they became adults.

So what’s the blame for these bad habits? Is it parents, technology, both or something else?

I think the blame is on technology. Computers were not as big as they are now, when we were kids. They only way to entertain ourselves was to go outside. Especially in the summer there are so many options, but in the winter I can understand the want to be using technology instead of being outside.

Out Doors for sure. I feel that kids lose social skills from being inside so much. I love being outside and honestly it is better to experience reality then programed life on a screen.

Ooooo this is a hard choice. Especially cause we live in a city where the weather is so bi-polar!!! But I would definitley have to say I like outdoor games better. Because when the weather is nice, its so nice to get outside and swim or play basketball or baseball just do anything outside. Theres nothing like chicago in the summer!!!

Oh, if if the right games are played, some really darn good life lessons can be learned. People don't take video games as seriously as they would a book, but if you pay close attention some really good life lessons can be learned. The Metal Gear Solid  series is a good example.

I pick video games over outdoor games as a form of entertainment. I mean I can save the girl, get the happy ending, and beat the crap out of the bad guys all in one go if I really wanted to.  I can never do that in real life, even if I wanted to. But it like all things that bring pleasure, it should be limited.

I used to play outside every single day! My whole coldisac would all play together. Now, I occasionally see a few kids walking over.. then going into a house. It's so sad because I used to have so much fun and now all kids are doing is playing on the computer and watching tv. I wish it would be more like it used to be, everything was much better in my mind.

Technology is truely making us unhealthy and causing us to develop bad habits. Soon we'll be just a bunch of obeise people living off of technology like in that movie Wall-E. People should change their habits but the question is how?

i definitely agree with this. i used to see kids outside at every house down the street when i was a kid, but now everyone is inside. its sad to see that video games and computer have surpassed the fun of just going outside and having a good time with your neighbors.  being outside is alot healthier and more social, which is two great benefits.

i think that kids need to start playing outside like they used to back in the day. when your younger you need your exercise, its really important for your health. and with all of this new technology and video games kids arent doing it, theyre all just going to get fat and lazy

I agree with josh because during outdoor sports you are more hands on and you are not only learning the games but you are learning how to work with a team.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
