Recently, many young athletes have been dropping out of a sport they had played for years to play a game called LaCrosse. What is LaCrosse? Lacrosse is a game that is mixed with hockey, soccer, and basketball. The goal of the game, like most sports, is to get the ball down the field and score... But with a stick...? and a ball the size of a baseball? This seems outrageous! But most teens have left their other sports to come out and play this amazing game.

The game was developed by Native Americans back before the Europeans and the puritans first stepped onto this great land. They used wooden sticks, with cow hide as their strings, and it was an all-out brawl with no rules and as many people could play as they want. But today it is a little different game that has been picked up by many young and old athletes of our time. There are 22 players on the field at once, and 11 players on each team playing. You got three mid-fielders ("middies"), Three forwards("attacks"), Three defensemen("D-poles"), and of course the goalie. Defensemen have long poles in order to play defense on the offensive middies trying to score. The other Middies and Attackmen have short poles so they can run easier, pass easier, but it is harder to stick check. The goal of the game is to obviously score... just like every other sport. But there are certain strategies to be able to score more efficiently.

So why is LaCrosse becoming more popular? Well I have a couple theories. People are always talking about, "Yeah dude, i want to be a lax bro, yeah bro!" first of all not all laxers are like that. You have to be athletic to play a sport like LaCrosse, it is not easy. There is a lot of running involved and you have to be physically tough. This past game, I, Myself, got hit extremely hard by a D-pole and all my teeth moved and are now angled weird... it’s a rough game. So I just wanted to say to all those people who want to be in it for the "BRO" aspect... you got a lot coming for you. The main reason I think it is becoming popular though is because of how new of a sport it is. People are always used to watching the same Football or baseball games... i have to admit it’s getting boring. Something new and exciting, like lacrosse, has brought many young teens and young adults to realize that there are new and better sports out there.

Would any of you consider LaCrosse? Girls and Boys Lacrosse included.

Lacrosse is awwwesome. I used to do camps and I played my freshman year, but I had other stuff that got in the way, so unfortunately I had to quit. I was sooo pissed, it is one of the coolest sports ever!!! Its got a little of everything mixed into it. So people from different sports could play it and really like it, cause it's something kind of familiar to them. It's super physical, and the only down fall is when you got hit w/ the ball, (especially when your goalie, which is what I was )cause it leaves HUGE welts and bruises on you, but at least you look totally bada** . But yeah, to answer your question, I definitley believe its  becoming more popular, especially for the reasons A) because its so similar to so many sports and anybody can play and B) it kicks butt.

YES, over the last couple of weekends lacrosse was all over ESPNU and I watched a couple of games and it actually got my attention and it seemed fun and all the "flow" looked great.

I had heard about lacrosse before but before highschool, I never realized how popular it is at this school! So many people from different sports play lacrosse. Everyone seems to want to be a part of it.

i also think that lacrosse is becoming more popular, and that a good thing. its a great game to watch because there always seems to be something happening and its pretty physical which doesnt make it boring. i think you have to be real committed to play, cause after hearing about what happened to you, you cant just go in thinking its going to be easy. if i ever had to consider lacrosse, i would love to play except for the fact girls isnt contact. because if i did play i would probably get real mad and want to deck some girl but wouldnt be able to.

I think Lacrosse is a cool sport, and i played it in junior high, but I don't think it will ever grow enough to be popular at a professional level. With high school, and college i think Lacrosse can become a top sport because its pretty new, and it is exciting.

I remember when my older brother played lacrosse in high school. I wasn't and still am not much of a sports fan, but I never minded going to his games even if it was below freezing outside. They were just really fun and exciting to watch, and I understood how rough they could get. I even played for a little bit, but decided to be done about after 7th grade. I still find myself cradling various objects such as hockey sticks, pool cues, and even spatulas. It just kinda feels natural to cradle things like lacrosse sticks for some reason to me.

I totally agree with you on everything here, lacrosse is a sport that is on the rise and could compete with other sports such as football, basketball, and baseball, in the next 10 years or so.  Personally I could never do lacrosse just because of baseball and stuff, but if I didn't play baseball I would definitely consider lacrosse.

I played lacrosse my freshman year and it was a ton of fun. I'm going to admit though, girls lacrosse is kind of a joke compared to guys. Girls is no contact and the only protection you have are eye goggles and a mouth guard, and guys is contact and they are a lot more protected. Lacrosse is really fun and I enjoyed playing it, unfortunately I don't have time any more. I really hope it becomes more popular, because its a very unique sport.

I was considering LaCrosse this year! It's the only ball sport I've considered in my entire life! I definitly think it's the sport's novelty that makes it so appealing. I still don't fully understand the game but it does look fun! The only bad part is how brutal it can be. I didn't really like the idea of people being allowed to check me in the face but hey, the more to you if you're okay with that! I think in the future LaCrosse is going to become a favorite American pastime just like football and baseball.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
