In modern day America, teenagers are portrayed to be many things, a lot of which are not true for everyone. For example teenagers in general are thought to put things off till the last minute and procrastinate even this may not always be the case. We are also made out to be very unreliable and have poor sense of judgement. unlike what many seniors think we are not all sex crazed criminals. This stereotype though, is shown time and time again in stories and media. However it is adults who we have seen and learned our lifestyles from. No parent would admit that they could be the problem with teenagers though, because their kid is a perfect angel who's never done anything wrong. What do you think? Are teenagers these days portrayed accurately in stereotypes and media, or are they nowhere close. If they are then whose fault is it, the kids themselves or society that raised them?

Here is a list of common teenage stereotypes with there Wikipedia page links to show some of the stereotypes

I think it's almost funny that "older" people have these thoughts of teenagers because they obviously don't think about who raised them. Kids learn from their parents and adults in their lives and so in the end how the teenager act has a lot to do with their parents and grandparents.

i agree each teen who walks into a room is instantly put into a catagory, but i dont think its just teens who get classified everyone sadly is usually put into a catagory

This is so true. You can literally walk down one hallway in Fremd and hear at least 3 of these stereotypical names being thrown around by other students. It's kind of ridiculous. Haven't we learned by now that the labels we place on people usually turn out to be wrong?

I think that teenagers are portrayed very badly in the media....but there are so many different "types" of teens, and lets face it, there's a large percent of the teenage population that DOES act like the teens on T.V.

there are so many adults who think that teenagers are just asking for trouble and that is why they give us nicknames. I know that if you work hard you can show the adults in your life just how unique and mature you are.

Yea, teens are portrayed in these ways but sadly I think its just true. I mean when I walk down the halls I see these type of stereotypes all the time. And the ones I know, its true for.

i really hate that now a day we are catagoized into groups just but the way we dress, talk, and act. i think it is ridiculous and that these sterio types are degrading and undermind us as adults.

Teenage sterotypes are so typical if I tell people I am a cheerleader they automatically think I am dumb and a slut. However, I am what you would call a goody too shoes. I am scared to do anything bad and I love achieving high grades. You have to get to know people before you sterotype them. But some teens do show a bad example and those are the ones that are mostly out. Also, a lot of teens do procrastinate, tons of my friends do and I do when I need to.

Stereotypes are terrible. I hate the fact that the skater type kids are always looked associated with the stoner type. This blog post is very true.

This is so true! I think that everybody subconsciously puts labels on people everyday without thinking anything of it!

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
