Still in contention for next college football season is the controversial decision: college football playoff, yes or no? Along the lines of making this decision, one must take in to effect the pros and cons. Just because the fans want a playoff system, the committee cannot be biased towards that. To start off with some pros, this effect would bring college football into conformity with all other major sports in the category of having a playoff system. Basically, we would have ONE winner in the end. Some think winning any BCS bowl game is just as big as THE BCS national championship. If this playoff system would succeed, this would not just affect the fans, but the major football colleges would have their grosses doubled over what their bowl game payouts are right now. Overall, this system would level out the playing field, giving every team a shot at "gold" and would narrow a team's goal for the season: one game, one winner. Instead, the bowl games offer many games with many winners.
Many believe this system would fail and ruin our good system of bowl games we follow currently. Some cons interfere with choosing a playoff system or not. Some say that playoffs would destroy our traditional bowl system which allows 56 teams to stamp their seasons a success by reaching the postseason. In other words, not making it to the championship isnt the "end of the world". Also, it could loosen interest in the regular season. College football is a drama-filled sport. With no playoff and only two teams qualifying for a final shot at the national championship, there is so little margin for error that every game late in the season is vital. While looking at the athlete's schoolwork, this playoff system could leek in to many student athlete's final exams. This may lead them to be harder pressed to be students rather than athletes. Either way this decision falls, everyone will have to obey it whether they like it or not. So, if you had to choose, what system best fits your style? If so, why?

A playoff system would be way better than the current bowl games setup. I (along with millions of others across the nation) want to see who is the best overall. Isn't that the point of competitive sports? To determine who is number 1?

I think they playoffs are a good idea, I just don't think it is going to happen. With all the money they are making now, I don't think they will risk losing any money for what the fans want.

Personally I think that if they were to make a playoff, it would only be to make more money for the broadcasting station and for the advertising firms. But since there is no playoff I think they should find a new way to rank and categorize each team and division based on skill not just the name of their school.

I believe college football should have a playoffs between the top 10 teams in the country. I am not saying we should remove the bowl games we all know and love but just take the top 10 teams in the country and put them in a round robin playoffs like the NFL. The teams that had lost in these playoffs should still be eligible to play in a high quality bowl game. Also, I believe that there are way too many teams playing in bowl games. 56 teams, according to Jack, compete in some type of bowl game, whether its popular or not. I believe that number should be reduced to at least 40 teams because alot of these teams don't even deserve to play in a bowl game.

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject. That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"
"I'm overloaded with social networking for school. They should make something exclusively for high school. Million dollar idea right there. Consolidate and simplify. "
I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
