The Fremd High School American Studies Ning

When I first got the assignment to create a blog entry for ning, I thought: “OK, I can do this. It shouldn't be too hard”. Well, it wasn't as easy I had expected. Actually, it was a lot harder than what I expected! I tried to come up with different and unique things to write about since the blog was assigned, but I couldn't think of anything that wasn't too obvious or too ridiculous. By the time I thought a good idea, there was already a blog entry on that subject. And this kept repeating.

Even though I like the fact that blogs are a nice way for us to express our feelings and thoughts about some specific topic, it proved to be pretty challenging to come up with something different. It's true that there are millions of topics that can be related to American Studies, but I don't want to write about anything; I want to write about something that has to do with the unit we are currently studying, something that affects us to some extent, or something I think is interesting or important. Maybe I'm just making it harder than what it actually is, or maybe I have absolutely no imagination, so I was wondering: Are you guys also struggling to think something to write about or do you think it's easy? Do you guys like having to write a blog on ning? What do you think about it? Please feel free to comment on your opinions :)
Thank you!

Yea coming up with mine took a very long time. It actually took up until tonight to actually write it and submit it because I couldn't come up with anything. I did the history of TV which is a huge thing in a typical American's life. Im sure if you need any ideas or if anyone else does you could do the history of something American related.

I had a little trouble too at the start, but then I realized how much I cared about something and I choose to write about that and it grew from there.

I pretty much knew from the start what I was going to write about. I love music and could easily write 50 paragraphs about it, so 2 paragraphs was a piece of cake. Everyone has something they are interested in that can relate to American Studies. I think you just have to think about it and when it clicks, you will know exactly what to say.

I actually thought it was going to be pretty hard to think of a topic to write a blog about.. I kept going back to that list of the "big ideas" trying to come up with something that I could relate to one of those ideas, but I couldn't think of anything. Then one day in class we were like talking about 2.5 kids, and I thought that could be a good blog relating to the American Dream. So that's what I ended up writing about. Once I got started it was actually pretty easy.

I have not made mine yet but I have some ideas...as a whole though I agree that it is going to be challenging since I am not very good with the computer and I don't know really how to insert a photo or a link even though Mr. Anderson aleady showed us how to in class. I guess I have to start working on it soon though because the clock is ticking!

At first i thought the opposite. This blog was going to be so hard and i didnt know how i would ever be able to think of a blog idea that was relevant to american studies that actually mattered enough to me that i could write a blog about my opinions on it. Once i was in class though almost daily something would pop out to me but then like you said someone would have already written about it. So when we talked about immigration i knew there was a topic for me. Its easy to find a topic i think the hard part of the blog is finding something you believe in. I love seeing what people choose to write them on because there is such a variety and it makes ning contributions easy and less like a homework assignment.

haha yes, everytime i write i struggle. writing for some people just comes natural to them. but for my blog i just used the idea mr. a used in class. thats why it was really easy for me, but than again it was still hard. but im glad i used his example the day he said it becasue i dont think i could think of a better one than that.

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
