Since we all just took the ACT and most of us have received our scores, I began to contemplate college life. Am I really going to be ready to leave home next year when I will be barely 18 years old?

Most of us think we are prepared for a 4-year college, but are we really? Many of us are used to the constant supervision by our parents and from experience I know that the second teenagers experience this type of freedom they use and abuse it.  Instead of focusing on studying and school many collegiate freshmen focus on their party and social life, which can be detrimental to their learning and developing as a student.

Not only is that a factor in choosing a 4-year college or a 2-year college, but also there is a financial factor that can be put into place.  Overall choosing a 2-year college for your Freshman and Sophomore years of college can save thousands of dollars in the long run and at the same time you are receiving the same education you would if you went to a 4-year college.

With all the different choices available, which path do you think you’ll take?

  • Community colleges are two-year colleges that enable you to start on a bachelor's degree. You can take your first two years at a community college, then transfer to a four-year university to finish. Or you can take a career program leading directly to a job.
  • State universities are four-year institutions offering bachelor's, master's and advanced degrees. Most offer on-campus housing and a full range of student activities.

Or take this quiz to see if you are ready to simply move out on your own and support your self-

I don't think it's fair that college tuition is going up at an extremely fast rate. I think that many people who acctually do really want to go to a 4 year university are ending up staying at a community college. My entire life was built up around the idea that if I did well in high school, I would go to a good college. Now with current tuition prices, that idea has changed. It has come down to taking another look at a 2-year community, which isn't by any means my first option, but is necesary.

I personally would choose a University and I did. Simply because I feel getting the experience to be on your own is important. Sure it is a lot cheaper to go to a community college, but you are most likely going to be stuck at home in a comfort zone. So why not change up the scenery and live a little.

Thinking about college, litterally gives me anxiety. I dont know if its the fact that I have no idea what I do, or if Im just freaked out thinking about it. All I know is that I avoid it like the plague. I really have no idea what I'll do when I'm done w/ high school. I mean, truly? I would love to travel for a year, or join the peace corp or something, but I absoloutley know there is no way my mom would ever let me do that, so Im pretty positive I'll end up just going to a university. But, we'll see, I know I'm really excited for the freedom college would give me, but at the same time it scares me to think about living on my own like that.

I Honestly do not know what my plan is for college and I have been trying to avoid it for a while. Most teens truely are not ready for college. Thankfully there is so many different options and plans to choose from, but then again that could just screw us over as well.

i believe alot of kids think they are ready for college, but aren't at all. but in reality they have to be no matter what because they cant depend on their parents any longer. the real world is coming faster than they think so they have to start making big decisions on colleges because next comes a job and so on. so college in the fist test into seeing what everyones future is going to be like.

I am not ready. I still want to take the ACT again at least once, maybe twice. Some Juniors graduate early and I could not be able to do that. I want to enjoy high school while I can. Maybe next summer I'll be ready but now, no.

I believe that I am ready for college. Its a bit scary to think about that in a year were going to be going off to college on our own and then after that we will be supporting ourselves and working everyday but I am still excited to experience college life and have some freedom.

I think everyone is a bit worried about college just because deciding on a major can sometimes get a little confusing, but I personally know exactly what I want to do with my life so I just really want to graduate and get into the college life.

I feel very ready for college.  In my experience people become more responsible when they shoulder more responsibilities.  In high school, beyond homework and keeping out of trouble on the weekends students have very few responsibilities.  So naturally, we're irresponsible.

I think I am ready for college, I might feel a little different once I get there. I think I am independent enough to survive on my own.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
