When I was about 7 years old, during summer I was outside almost every day along with all the other kids in my neighborhood. But these days, I don’t see as many as I used to. Now they’re all inside on the computer, watching TV or playing video games and this can lead to serious health problems, not only now, but in the future.

Kids these days aren’t getting the proper amount of exercise. Statistics show that kids aren’t outside as much as they should be and exercise rates are dropping. Because kids have these bad habits, it affects them as they become teenagers and even adults. If someone rarely exercised as a kid, it’s going to be a lot harder for them to change habits as they become adults, rather than if someone routinely exercised as a kid, it would be easy to keep those habits as they became adults.

So what’s the blame for these bad habits? Is it parents, technology, both or something else?

I'd rather be playing outdoor games than playing video games any time of the day unless I'm sick or worn out. But there can be a healthy medium between playing games outside and playing games on a computer/TV screen. I only like video games that involve sports but I think if there's balance between the two  it's not a big deal.

I think it's a little bit of both. Kids are getting into technology so young and it's probably their parents who are buying video games for them. I was the same, I was outside almost everyday when I was little playing with my neighbors. Even now I still love to be outside. My parents influenced me to. They didn't want me glued to the monitor all day.

I agree with Ben on this one. during the day if it is nice and sunny i decide to hangout with my friends, play some bball at the park. When night rolls around if im not doing anything i decide to turn on the game system and play some video games with my friends. so either way im keeping social, and the majority of my day is done outside enjoying the weather.

I think it is really easy to balance the two. I go outside and play sports with all my friends, then at night play video games, when we wouldn't be outside anyway. I don't really think there is a huge problem, because at least with my friend group, no one stays home to play video games. People play video games, then go socialize.

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
