The Price of Education
As we’re getting to the half way mark of our junior year, teachers, friends, parents, & family, keep talking about college. “Where do you want to go?” “What are you going to major in?” Whether we like it or not, the time to pick a school is coming up soon. The question on my parents mind, as well as mine is “How do you plan on paying for it?”
It’s pretty obvious that college isn’t cheap. On average, tuition goes up 6% each year. With this increase, it’s getting harder &
harder for parents to pay for college. I know for my parents my choices for college are limited because of the cost. I want to go to Arizona State University or University of Arizona, but my parents say it’s too expensive. Tuition at ASU is around $35,000 a year. My parents think it would be better to go to University of Illinois or Northern University instead. Tuition at U of I is around $27,000. Its several thousands of dollars cheaper then ASU, but it isn’t really known for being a good school to study business, which is what I want to major in.
To be honest I think the cost to go to college is ridiculous. Even to go to a school that isn’t as well known or top ranked, it is costly. However, some parents might be forced to send their kids to those schools due to their financial situation. Do you think that having to sacrifice the quality of the education because of the cost is smart? Are you in a similar situation?

Comment by Darby Douglas on March 9, 2011 at 1:35pm This happened to my friend. He got accepted into his first choice, however all it came down to, was $750 that his family did not have. He ended up having to go to a community college had no intention of going to, which really is too bad.
I actually went to a college finance meeting yesterday and there is just so much work that goes into finding scholarships etc. I don't know how I'll be able to do it!
College is way too expensive these days. According to the Universities we are like personal banks, made out of money. Thats so lame a nd so not true. My financial situation isn't that great. My family don't have that much money. I want to go out of state but my mom wants me to go somewhere in Illinios just so that it's cheaper. Then I'm pressured into getting a scholarship, how else am I going to pay for school? Its so ridiculous.

Comment by whitney cummings (caleo) on February 16, 2011 at 12:00pm I agree, college tuition is way too expensive! It's sad because college is such a necessity and it is so important. I hear all the time of students who went away to college and couldnt afford it so they came back to go to the local college to save money. And this is only my tuition I am thinking of, my mom has four more to pay for after me. There are loans, but I hate the thought of living the rest of my life paying those off.

Comment by Summer Moghamis on January 31, 2011 at 9:00pm This is very interesting. I've been looking at colleegs lately and fell in love with the college my boyfriend is going to, Augustana College. My dad fell in love with it, my mom likes it, and I never expected I'd find a school that would meet all my requirments for what a school should have. Here's the catch. Grand total; $42,000 a year. Since my dad makes quite a bit of money, we don't qualify to get much federal funds and those deduction scholarships. My dad is willing to pay if and only if I am willing to put all my energy into succeding in my major, (medical) and trying my hardest right now. He said that if I was only in for the parties, then he would send me to a cheaper school where I don't have to try as hard. Of course I chose Augustana. I'm afraid I am going to dissapoint him if one day I get really tired, because $42 grand is a lot of money with very few deductions. College is so stressful these days. I think it's worth the money though if you know that one day you'll be able to make a lot of money and pay back the student loans/your parents if they want you to pay them back.
Good luck though
