Students, Take Out Your Laptops. We're Going To Take Some Notes.

What would school be like if all students had their own laptops, and that's all they had to bring every day? Would it make school better or worse?

I personally think it would be a great idea if everyone had their own laptop. It could help with so many issues, some not even specifically relating to school. We already do so much on the computer for school so why not give everyone their own laptop? We write papers, check grades, e-mail teachers. They even gave every student their own D211 e-mail adress! Currently, some textbooks are accessible online. If this was true for all textbooks we wouldn't even need them anymore. We would be able to access almost anything with laptops, so why not get them?

Also, if the school provided every student with their own laptop it would be less of a hassle for the students to go out and buy school supplies. You would never have to think about buying pens, folders or notebooks ever again. Everything can be written and saved in folders on the computer. Not having to buy new school supplies every year could save families so much money.

Finally, since everything can be typed, saved, and sent through computers there wouldn't be a need for paper. Think about what your folders look like at the end of the year. Overstuffed and almost unusable. We waste so much paper at school and some people don't even recycle. Using laptops, we wouldn't need a single sheet of paper for the whole year. Think about how many trees that could save.

But there's always a bad side to every good side which includes cost, learning ability and others.

Could schools afford laptops for all students? If not, would you or your parents be willing to buy one on your own?
Would we learn better on computers? or get distracted with all the websites and games computers have?
Do you think Fremd should, or even would buy us all laptops?

I agree that this would be a great idea. Laptops are the future of a learning environment. In college we are required a laptop and that computer becomes our organization and source for learning though books, internet, notes and programs that write our papers and help with reasearch and so much more. If highschool is supposed to prepare us for the future of our education which occurs in college. It should be required to use a laptop in highschool to get used to using it and incorporating it with our studying and homework. It would be a very expensive decision but there are a lot of benefits that make it worth while.

I would love if we could have laptop at school for us to take notes on.  I know now when we take notes it's hard, because you have to write fast just to get everything down before the teacher moves on, but if we had laptops it would be easy because typing is more quick then handwriting.  Also, a lot of teacher now a days use powerpoint, and they are able to put those power points in an area where we can access them and we are able to work at our own speed then.  Also, I use we were like Stevenson, because they get Ipad to use as their text books and a lot of students them bring them to class.  Overall though, I wish students could at least bring in their own laptops so this way they are able to take notes which every way they prefer.

I think that giving students laptops is a great idea! We could have all our textbooks on them and we wouldn't have to carry around notebooks. It would make things a lot easier. If the school provided every student with the same laptop then there wouldn't be theft because everyone would already have one. On the other hand, it would be very expensive for the school and it probably would not happen for a while. Many students have their own laptop and at times I wish we could bring them to school but it would not be fair to everyone else. Hopefully one day things will change and students can have school made easier with laptops.

I love the idea of schools giving laptops to their students. I know that my dinosaur computer at home doesn't have all the updated Microsoft office and all the other things like that. I also like this idea because teachers don't have to waste paper and their time making copies for us that we almost lose. But, I feel that the district might not have the budget to afford these computers as well as the students which would be the main reason behind not giving us laptops.

laptops is a great idea !!! now there programs that can connect a main computer to all other computers. Whatever the teacher plays on the computer can easily be played on all laptops connected to hers. we don't even need wires to connect these laptops. it is eco-friendly choice too. if getting laptops in school is not possible then i think that all material taught in school should be even more easily accessible.

I personally think that giving everyone their own laptop is a great idea. With all the talk of "going green," using a laptop instead of paper is a good idea. If you think about it, you get least 1 sheet of paper in each class everyday. so that's about 6 sheets of paper, now muliplty that by how many kids are in your class, let's say 30. that's 180 sheets right there, and those are just your classes. It's crazy how much paper we use and throw out. If we were able to use laptops, we could just open up the worksheet under a folder the teacher saved it under. I think the tablets would be even more helpful because we could show our math work right on the laptop and save it under a folder for teachers when we are done with it.

I agree with you 100%, we wouldn't have to spend anymore money on pens, pencils, and all that stuff.

Who knows though, maybe in a few years when our kids go to highschool, this will become reality!

Laptops in school would be great! Now a days, you have to have access to a computer and using the school ones for all the school work you that requires a computer would take a lot of time management. Most people have computers at home, but having a computer from school that is used for school would help be much easier. It would be a huge transition but I think in the future that will be very realistic.

Having laptops in school would be awesome! There are a lot of positives about it. It would save a lot of paper, meaning a lot less trees being cut down. It would be more fun maybe? Help kids work on typing for future jobs? But its got a lot of negatives too. It would be VERY distracting. Teachers also wouldn't know what their students is even doing on it either. They could be playing games for all the teacher knew. It would also be a hassle if you forgot it or it stopped working for some reason. But all in all, a good idea, I think.

i Think this is a great idea, laptops for school would be a great idea. There is also some downsides, cost theft, or if the school bought them for everyone, they would be incredibly slow. Look at the computers in the lab, unbelievably slow and just hard to work with. Other than these downsides it would be a great save of paper and space.

I think laptops at school would be so cool! It would feel more like a college and it would kind of pepare us for that. I also agree when you said that it would be less of a hassle for students. i mean some students have to carry a bunch of textbooks at a time because their classes are so far apart that they can't stop at their lockers. with laptops we wouldn't have that problem. If all the textbooks were online then it would be pretty amazing. using a laptop would be like tking your whole locker to your class.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
