The majority agree that technology is taking over our world with constant new breakthroughs and inventions. Walking down the streets of Chicago and even just in our own Fremdland, it is very common to see people and students walking around listening to the iPods and using their cell phones(shh!). Although cell phones are extremely beneficial to have in order to keep in touch with friends and loved ones, it is impossible for them to imitate the real face-to-face personal connection you have with those people. You can send someone a text and mean it one way, but they can interpret it in any way that they want because sometimes it is very difficult to tell how the sender means the message when reading it (unless they add trillions of exclamation points, question marks, and smileys). Being able to understand a person's tone isn't always the easiest thing to do over texting or Facebook chatting or whatever technology you are using, which brings me to this blog post: SKYPE.

Skype is probably the most effective way of communicating with someone via technology, because it is the closest imitation of talking to someone in person. Being able to hear AND see the person you are talking to rules out the problem of perhaps misinterpreting a text. Although you can distinguish the tone of the person if you are talking to them on the phone, facial expressions play a huge role in communication, and with Skype, that factor is solved as well. Facial expressions add so much delivery in a conversation, and it is so much more fun being able to see the person you are talking to. Also, you won't have to worry as much about getting weird looks when you are in a public place and feel like a loser because you smiled or laughed at your phone.

Really? Haha I can't believe some people these days.

Anyone a big fan of Skype? I know I am! Feel free to comment, share any crazy Skype stories, or whatever! :)

I have been using Skype almost daily lately because my brother just recently went off to college. It is very useful to keep in touch with people you miss or need to talk to and it's very easy to use. Skype has helped me keep my relationship with my brother even with him being in an entirely different state.

Skype is great. I have friends from all over the world, NY, CA, Sweden, Scotland, Arizona, Canada, I have one or two friends in each place. We talk about current events things we are interested in which is mostly video games and other stuff. It's a daily thing. Most people are on every day or so. It's good times. No one uses webcams it is all voice and chat.

i love skype because it makes it so easy to communicate with my family. Both my sisters live in different states because they are in college so we like to skype to keep in touch and see each other. It makes it feel like you not so far away from each other.

Skype is so cool. I think it's a great new way of communicating with other people. It really seems like your talking to them face to face, screen to screen will have to do for now.

I dont use skype but I use oovoo which is similar to skype but you can talk to multiple people at once. Its a lot of fun and I really like being able to see the person I talk to.

I skype with my cousins in college. Its a great way to keep in touch with them. Also, my bestfriend lives in chicago and we don't get to see each other often so we skype about once a week.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
