FOOD: What's going on?

Food we all LOVE it. All around the world there are all different kinds of restaurants serving a verity of yummy cuisine. But I am starting to think that in America that we aren’t appreciating how important it is and valuable it is. I see tons and tons of wasted food every day in the cafeteria and some people in the world could use it. I know during the Great Depression they were not wasting anything. Back then they were basically all trying to survive off of a loaf of bread. I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound too appetizing to me. I dont think that they were having pie eating contests during that time.

Us as Americans are blessed with all of these different types of food from different places such as Panda Express, Chipotle, McDonalds, China Wok, Jimmy Johns , and Wendys. All mouth watering places but sorry to burst your bubble most of that food isn’t really healthy. I think that the portions of food and the grease that is in food is getting just really outrageous. I am pretty sure that other countries are making fun of the amount of fattening food that we consume. A lot of restaurants do not just give you one serving of food they give you eight on one plate, you do not need eight pounds of pasta. ( even though it might be delicious ) its not healthy. I think that we as Americans need to start really think about really appreciating food, because there are people out there who do not get 3 full meals a day.

Did you know that you should have 3 to 5 servings of vegetables everyday? What do you think about Americas eating habits? Do you think that we are eating too much or too greasy? Do you think that we are wasteful when it comes to food? If so, what do you think that we can do to help that?

It's sad all of the food we waste, it could have gone to people who really needed it and who couldn't afford a meal.

The amount of waste in this country is ridiculous. The amount of subsidizing going on to keep it going is a drain on our society. The entire food industry is screwed up. The way that junk food companies can push their dollars around is disgusting. The way that farms have to survive off of the government to make any profit is insane. Sure it keeps prices at a stable level but this is not natural.

i do think that americans waste food. you would thijnk that with the depression that recession or what ever economical state were in right now people would conserve more food and be thankful for what they have. but i dont think that some people really grasp what it going on right now economically.

That is really bad especially when everyone is saying how we need to help with the world hunger crisis. Well for starters they could not pig out all the time. Ew I would puke if I ate any of that food. >:p

I LOVE FOOD. I do love it a lot but i do sometimes need to watch it. bad blood pressure runs thorugh my family and so does heart problems. Food can always be great but sometimes you have got to watch it.

OMG!!! That was disgusting!!! It's so sad how Americans eat like this. Their eating habits are disgusting! I was watching, "Price of Beauty" and they went to France. And in France they think of Americans as pigs b/c the amount of food they eat. Our portions are huge! I agree the fast food places should be minimized, but then again people go there because it's cheap.

those pictures are soooo gross!!! its not shocking at all to me that americans would waste food like this since we have it so easy. we need to realize that having all this food isnt always going to be around.

America's food can be so strange. I really don't understand why we pile everything onto 'Chicago Style hotdogs'. It's gross.

I definitely support Americans eating more fruits and vegetables. Not only will it help obesity rates decline, it supports the economy if you buy local produce. There are several farmer's markets I plan on shopping at because I really enjoy cooking and I get the warm fuzzies inside talking to the grower instead of looking at the "california" stamp on my strawberries.

I agree with the fact that we have terrible eating habits. However, I like having the option to choose between a ton of fatty, greasy, delicious hamburgers. I also love Taco Bell and Panda Express. To me, it doesn't matter how unhealthy they are. What does matter is that they both have great tasting food.
