On Arizona's New Laws On Immigration

Arizona's new immigration laws are the strictest in America history. The recently passed Arizona bill encourages officers to check the papers and detain anyone they suspect of being an illegal alien. It is now illegal in Arizona to not have your immigration papers on you at all times. Some say it encourages racial discrimination. Supporters of the bill claim that it is to keep the people of Arizona content and maintain the American ideal of fairness. They also point out the bills intentions to stop people from hiring illegals and those who transport them.

Here are some articles on the subject:

And some videos:
This one cannot be hyperlinked by request of the poster. It is from CNN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3hvv-fYu-Y
This one is from CBS

And to get some perspective from our friends on the far right, Fox News

What do you think about the law? Do you think a state has the right to control immigration like this, or is this sort of power reserved for the federal government? How does this law affect your life and the lives of those around you?

This is one of those very sensitive topics to discuss, on one hand, it can greatly provoke racism in Arizona, and on the other it can help secure the nations border.

I agree, it is such a racist bill, and I honestly don't think it's going to be possible to get people to carry their immigration papers with them at all times. I don't see how this bill helps secure the boarders themselves but it might help prevent illegal immigration yes.

Yes this bill opens up racism into the picture BUT the whole reason this bill was brought about a well known and liked rancher was shot dead point blank by the drug cartel in mexico. Honestly i applaud Arizona for taking the first steps to making our boarders more secure because let me tell you right know out boarders are NOT secure by any means

This is a totally racist bill. i mean common your disrespecting CITIZENS even if they earned it by taking the test. i feel so frustrated by this law now that it is. it should be removed by the supreme court!

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
