As you all know, Mr. Anderson was nice enough to let us skip reading The Great Gatsby and let us go right to the fun stuff: the movie!!(Thanks Mr. Anderson!) At first I liked this movie because it was light-hearted and gave us a good sense of what the roaring twenties were really like with the flappers, prohibition, etc. It was funny how Daisy acted so dumb and clueless. I would have to say that the best scene of the whole movie was when Gatsby was throwing his clothes everywhere and Daisy, Nick and Gatsby were all cracking up. That is until Daisy picked up one of the shirts and started sobbing into it because it was the most beautiful shirt she had ever seen. That was so funny.

Then there is the odd side of the movie. It was so weird when Tom punched Myrtle and the blood was dripping down her face. She didn't even bother to wipe it away. She just let it drip... Gross. Also, Gatsby went all stalkerish on us with his scrapbook filled with pictures of Daisy. She didn't even find it a little bit weird! In fact, she liked it! I for one would have been creeped out. The weirdest part of the movie though was when Myrtle was locked up in the room above the gas station and she pounded on the window so hard the glass shattered. Then she LICKED THE BLOOD OFF HER OWN HAND!! That was seriously disgusting. Who would do that?! Yuck.

Overall, I'm not sure what I think of this movie. I'm kind of leaning towards dislike only because I was so grossed out by that psycho Myrtle. However, I am still really grateful that Mr. Anderson didn't make us read the book and just let us cut to the chase!

Here is a rap about The Great Gatsby(compliments of Vanessa who showed me this)
PS. The sound doesn't start until the kid starts playing the violin just so you know.

What did you guys think of the movie and/or rap? Feel free to post any thoughts here! Thanks! :)

I just noticed that if you look at the eyes on the original book cover of the great gatsby, you can see two naked women in the pupils. Subliminal messaging?

I really liked the fact that we didn't have to read the book, and we just got to watch the movie. I think the movie was a little odd, but overall it was good.

In my Opinion, the movie was kind of funny, but it got boring at some parts... I didnt like that parts where they just stared at each other for like 1o minutes. Other then that it was ok.

I think the movie did a really good job or showing what the 20's were really like, but I agree that it was really strange. I hated Myrtle but I guess they needed someone to kill off. She was always bleeding which forshadowed that she would die. And Daisy was just dumb, I was so confused why she would be crying into a shirt. The green light at the dock was really odd too. But I wish people had parties today like Gatsby's lol.

I thought the movie was pretty good, I feel like I got a great sense of what the roaring 20s were really like! It definitely had its weird parts though, I don't know if I would have been able to handle a whole book about it. That rap was great, I keep forgetting to look it up on YouTube, but thanks for posting it conveniently right here!

I liked the movie but I thought that it was a little over done even for the time period. I still liked the book as much as the movie when I read it on my own.

I kind of liked the movie but it was a little wierd. Best part was the shirt scene for sure. My sister had to read it for class and she found the part in the book. It was almost as funny reading it as it was watching it. I got that she was happy that Gatsby was rich, but it was a little wierd.

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
