The cycle of greed

After we recently went over the Great Depression and seeing how the economy is falling yet again, I've gained interest in what causes this to happen over and over again. From what I have found, it stems from one of the many emotions a person has. It is one of the more dangerous emotions in people, and also one of the hardest to understand and…

The Media...Can't Live With Them, Can't Live Without Them

I always disliked the news. When I was young my parents always wanted me to watch the news. I only paid attention to the weather and the sports because everything else was about evil crimes people did. I was also scared at times to watch after hearing about serial killers and bombings. Now, during the rare occasions in which I watch the news, I have little to no emotion towards the stories of murder and battery. If anything I just hate the person who commited the crime or idiot who ran…

Will racism ever go away?

Many people think that racism is an issue of the past. I think that our country has still not put it behind them. It may not be shown as directly at all, but there are lots of little and big things that show racism. People still make racist jokes and don't always fully trust other races. People are identifying people by there race and stereotyping. That is racist. The other day i was in gym… Continue

No Technology!?...How Depressing...

So, the other night I was taking history notes on the Great Depression, and having a wonderful time, I might add. In the notes, I noted (pun intended) that historians and…

What's going on in the world? No seriously, does anyone know??

Today in class Mr. McCusker was talking about the new threat that North Korea now poses against us. I ,for one, was completely shocked, to now know that something that large and important was going on, it scared me a lot. I didn’t know what scared me more, that fact that it happened or that fact that I didn’t know about it. I got me thinking, do we as teenagers, need to be more aware of what…

Pros and cons of having the Final Review online.

Since finals are coming up for most of you guys, and (hopefully) not for me, Mr. Anderson has, as you all hopefully have noticed, asked us everyday if we have any questions about the English portion of it.

Usually people don't really ask questions at all other then the everyday question "will we be able to write the paper before we take the final?" And as we sit there quietly without any questions I can't help but wonder if the reason for the lack of questions is because the…

GLEE: the new sensation

"Glee" is the new sensation among teens these days. Its the new musical comedy show on fox. It is a great show about high school teenagers in a show choir that get picked on for being outcasts. This TV show shows different stereotypes and how teens get treated when they are the odd one out but also shows how teens handle these kind of situations like getting made fun of and getting slushy thrown in their face. "Glee" is based off of… Continue

Do we really know what we're doing?

The unit we just finished in psychology had to do with mental illnesses and how it affects the people around them and how we treat them. When I say mentally ill, I'm not talking about autistism and such. Mental illnesses range from things like depression, OCD, anxiety disorder, to multiple personality, bi-polar and so on. In the past, we would just lock them up in a mental hospital to be left for dead. Not such a good idea, right? Well fortunatly for these patients, things have changed. Now a…

Skype It Up!

The majority agree that technology is taking over our world with constant new breakthroughs and inventions. Walking down the streets of Chicago and even just in our own Fremdland, it is very common to see people and students walking around listening to the iPods and using their cell phones(shh!). Although cell phones are extremely beneficial to have in order to keep in touch with friends and loved ones, it is impossible for them to imitate the real face-to-face personal…

The M1 Garand

When we started our World War II unit the first thing i thought of was the M1 Garand. I figured this would be a decent blog topic since everything else out there was used. When we started this war we needed something durable, rugged, reliable, and accurate with stopping power....this was our solution. The M1 Garand is a 30-06 caliber, gas operated rifle created by John Garand. It was equipped with a bayonet and built in cleaning kit in…

What's good art?

Recently I wemt to Chicago. i visited the art museum when i was down there. While the day as a whole was fun, besides all the walking, but the art bothered me. i did not enjoy it. not all of it at least. art defines cultures and changes over time with people. some art is specific enough that it can be associated with one artist and some is general and doesnt even have any recognizable artists.

Who desides if something is good art or bad art? who…

So, what about the Gulf?

As we all know about the oil spill in Gulf of Mexico where a oil rig owned by BP exploded and then sank leaking thousands of barrels of oil in the the gulf each day. BP has thrown idea after idea at trying to stop the leak from getting the relief valve to work to putting a huge box over the leak (by the way that box is now sitting about a quarter mile away from… Continue

End of the Year Craziness!

Between finals, warm weather, prom, sports, clubs, and summer coming up everyone is antsy to get out of here! Its that time of year when the students start checking out early and the teachers have to lecture us day after day to stay on top of our school work. Although most of us think it's annoying, it's the truth. If you think about it, this semester is a very important one. It's the last set of grades that colleges see before applying. Talk about stress! Then with stressing about prom dates… Continue

Today's Hip-Hop/Rap

I don't know if you've noticed, but there has been change in the world of hip hop. I think today's hip hop/rap has a lot less value now. First off, I'm going to refer to rap and rnb as hip hop, because I think that's what hip hop sort of is. No doubt, I love hip hop, but I think there's some problems with it that make it lose its value. So what's wrong? Today's music subjects or topics are really stupid and pointless. All these rappers and singers really do is just brag about all the thing…

what has t.v. done to society...

Just like any other teenager in high school I watch t.v. Although I am guilty of watching t.v. I realize what terrible effects it has on everyone of its viewers. I think that many programs try to create a positive effect and influence their viewers in a good way, but often fail. I personally watch shows like tough love. "Tough love" is a reality show that ultimately is meant to help certain individuals find love. Although the show has taught a select few a thing or to about relationships it…

FOOD: What's going on?

Food we all LOVE it. All around the world there are all different kinds of restaurants serving a verity of yummy cuisine. But I am starting to think that in America that we aren’t appreciating how important it is and valuable it is. I see tons and tons of wasted food every day in the cafeteria and some people in the world could use it. I know during the Great…

WOW! REALLY!

So I had a really great blog post just typed up and ready to go, about Mother Nature and her punishments that she could dish out to the human race. As I went to preview my blog on the preview blog button located next to the publish button. I looked back at what I had done first, looked good to me but why would they put a preview button if it had no purpose so I clicked on it and my whole blog suddenly disappeared off the whole ning network!…

Sports Future Stars

Hey all you Chicago sports fans!! Just wondering how you taken a good look at your team and the players?? Well if you close you will be able find some future stars who are just 3 or 4 years older than us. For an example Patrick Kane Jonathan Toews are just 22 years old ( Toews) and 21 years old (Kane). I mean as I watch the Blackhawks play and you see the fans all cheering for Kane and Toews some of the gans are old…

Does privacy still exist?

Sitting at Starbucks, drinking a coffee and listening to some classical music playing in the background. This feels comfortable and welcoming. We pull out our laptop and we begin to browse the internet through the free WiFi that is accessible to anyone but you do not worry. Computer privacy is something we never think about. Yes, we worry about things like credit card fraud online but has anyone thought of things that steal our information and we agree…

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
