Hi, I'd like a husband, a nice house in a safe neighborhood, and 2.4 kids, please.

Go to college, get married, have kids, get a good job, live in a safe neighborhood..blah blah blah.
These are all things our parents have told us about our future, or at least my parents have. Our society has kind of predicted that most of those things will happen to the average person, though. Those are all "American Dreams." A lot of people spend their lives chasing the average American dream instead of being truly happy. But why would anyone want that..? We all need to create dreams for…

Pollution, have we improved?

In class we have been discussing quite a lot of things like immigration, urbanization and such. Well one thing that really goes along with both of those ideas is the subject of pollution. We learned that the city life, sanitation, and Pollution was quite the problem during the 1800-1900's immigration in New York City. Streets were filled with dead horses, alleys filled with muck and human waste. Any mother or father in that day would have been crazy to let their kids run around in that stuff.… Continue

The Sweet Sixteen of Writers Week

I don't know about you but I do know what I think about when I hear Writers Week. I think OK finally we don't have anything big in English. We get to sit in the comfy chairs in the auditorium and just sit there and listen to this writers talk and perform for us. This is how many of us felt our freshman and sophomore years, but I know that this year has changed for me.

Now, When I hear Writers Week I think finally we get to hear some of the best writers right here in…

Second Semester of Junior Year

High school is only 8 short semesters long, and when you think about it, they usually go by pretty quickly. But we are only a couple weeks into second semester and it seems like it's lasted years. When you're a freshman, you're so excited to finally be in high school and do high school things. So the first semester rolls around fast and it's time to take your first finals ever. Then reality strikes you, and you realize you are now a big high schooler. When you're a sophomore,…

Immigration changes

The last couple of days in history weve been talking about immigration. The time period that we have been discussing seems like everyone was pretty much an immigrant. The country was developing and was in the middle of the industrial revolution so immigrants were neseccary, but today the last thing americans needs is an overload of immigrants. According to http://immigrationcounters.com/ there are currently over 22 million illegal immigrants in the… Continue

A Post for President's Day

Happy President's Day!! Hooray for no school!! Anyways, Mr. Anderson asked the class, "Which president are you going to think about on President's Day?" Well, I really wasn't planning to think about anyone...until I saw the poster above FIVE TIMES in ONE DAY. This poster is a simple poster with the face of President Lincoln and the words, "Gettysburg Address" written boldly on…

Music In a Nutshell

Music plays a HUGE roles in our lives. We hear it everywhere... on t.v., the radio, blaring through kids' ipods in the hallways, but music is much more than just sound. Music represents a person's culture; through music we are aloud to represent ourselves. America is believed to be a melting pot of cultural music. We have so much diversity because different ethnic groups immigrated to America presenting tons of new genres. There is pop, jazz, rock, altenative, indie, rap, and tons more! It's… Continue

The World Without the Wheel: Would our greatest inventions be the same? Would Apple exist?

Think about a world in which the wheel had not ever been invented? How would the average person get to work? The car would not have been invented cause it uses the wheel as its tires, and also they couldn't travel by horse and buggy, cause they also have the wheel in their design. How would people listen to their music, cause Apple, i think, would no longer be in business because a reason for their great success was the invention of the scroll wheel on the iPod. So how could…

The Beginning is The End

"You are chosen by God to live this way, and who you are was chosen already." I hear this everyday in American Studies, in context or in a theme. The Puritans have never left! The more I hear about them, the more used to it I become. As I compare the ways of the Puritans to the modern American, the ideas don't change. "In God we trust". We do because if he ain't the reason, then why do it? It is show to us through the Great Expansion, our Industrial… Continue

THIRD QUARTER AGONY, MISERY, PAIN, EVEN MORE AGONY, ANGUISH, AND BAD GRADES!!!!

Ahhhh, it feels so great to just have those three days off of school after those three days of brutal final exams. Just lounging around, realaxing, and just having a good time. But then Tuesday comes faster than a .50 caliber sniper shooting a bullet. The first day back at school after final exams is kind of terrifying. One minute it feels like schools out forever, then you realize your overloaded with school again. Every class feels like two hours, and then your told you have homework, and… Continue

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
