Now and Then

Last week, while watching the "Remembering Chicago" video in American Studies class, I began thinking about how much the times have changed since then, especially when it comes to how we, now a days, spend our past time. Back then, people enjoyed the simple things, like seeing a movie, or going out for ice cream. They went to amusement parks, saw live performances, or simply talked out on the front porch with neighbors, friends, and family. They even found enjoyment out of riding on a bus, even…See More

Just how Truthful is the Media?

I was fortunate enough to have seen Dave Cullen, author of Columbine, just last week at Writers Week. After listening to him speak, it really had me thinking about the media and the false information they feed us. Dave Cullen made a great point when he said that the media often distorts the truth. Today's society wants answers and we want them fast. Unfortunately, answers cannot always be given as quickly as we'd like them to be. You can't…

Striving for Perfection

Everyone strives for perfection. The problem is today's society and their idea of perfection. Teenagers' constant obsessions to look like the girls on the cover of magazines or to act just like the characters in the movies manipulates teenagers into thinking that they need to change themselves in order to be like them. In reality, there is no such thing as perfect. Most of the men and women on those magazines have been photo shopped, creating false ideas and…

What is sleep deprivation doing to our society?

Not sleeping well and not sleeping enough is not ok. As a matter of fact, there is quite a price to pay. Sleep deprivation significantly affects your health, performance, overall attitude, and safety. So, where is this lack of sleep steming from? I think the school schedule is one of the main sources of sleep deprivation. School starts at 7:30 a.m. which means some students have to be up as early as 5:30 a.m. to catch the bus. That's ridiculous! It's not that us teenagers want more… Continue

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
