Midwest disasters

Living in the Midwest, tornadoes are not uncommon to hear about. Since kindergarden we have been practicing drills, but all it ever seems to be is ten minutes without having to do school work. It never really crossed my mind that I would have to do this for a real tornado. After seeing the recent pictures of the tornado that went through Joplin Missouri, I really started to think of what it would be like to lose everything in a…

Does school ruin reading?

If you ask someone what was the last book they read for fun many will say "I don't know, I hate reading." or something along those lines. Many students today now associate reading with school work.  The only books they read are the ones chosen to fit the curriculum.  We read books for school a lot differently then reading for fun. For school work, every chapter read you have to determine the authors tone, or vocabulary words in the story. You have to constantly be thinking about the…

Are ACT prep classes an unfair advantage?

In today's society to get into college you need at least two things, your gpa and a standardized test score. Your gpa is in your full control. Each and every grade you earn and work for will make the difference. Your ACT or SAT score may work a bit differently. These tests give colleges an idea of what you have learned in school. You have five hours to take a mulitiple choice test in four different subjects. Both the pressure to get the score you want and the time…

What Would the Puritans Say about the Mosque Being Built in Lower Manhattan?

Our country's belief in freedom of religion is traced back all the way to the puritans. Their escape from the Anglican church led them to find sanctuary in this land. Decades later, when our country's constitution was being constructed, religious freedom was one of the core principles. Today we see religious freedom in a whole new light. Nine years ago the World Trade Center was attacked by al-Queda terrorists. Al-Queda is an extremist group of Muslims that are considered a terrorist… Continue

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
