Dorothea Lange: "Migrant Mother" (1936)

"This picture is so iconic and moving, every time I see it I get something new out of it. I love the story behind this picture as well, it really defines the era and from the worry lines and the ratty clothes to the unwashed hair of the children."

The Royal Wedding...History, or Frivolous Affair?

There has been a ton of buzz leading up to the Royal Wedding, some just wanted to see Kate's dress others believed it was an important part of history. Personally I was excited to see the wedding, but because I believe it is a part of history for our generation, we won't ever see a wedding of that caliber for the rest of our lives, and I would at least be able to say to my kids that I watched Will and Kate become married. Another reason I believe that people were anxious for the wedding was…

You can be an individual! But don't become too different...

Today's society is very individualistic, advertising for clothing, electronics and even Subway, where you can have it your way, speak to our generation that being an individual is good, and that you should want what nobody else should have. But with everyone is trying to achieve individuality, they are becoming the same person. What happens when someone is actually true to themselves and goes against what is popular in mainstream culture?…

Censorship in School: Who is it Really Protecting?

A lot of teenagers these days feel like they are already adults; we have jobs, responsiblities around the house, and we have hopes of higher education. One of the places that supports the development of students is school; but at what cost? Since schools have been created they have monitored what books we read, what clothes we wear, and what goes in our school newspapers. I understand that some things are just plain inappropriate, but we're not children anymore and part of school is to expand… Continue

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
