The Fremd High School American Studies Ning

Recently my little brother, a freshman, shoved his summer reading book in my face and told me it was the greatest book that he has ever read. Now my little brother isn't the most avid reader in the world so to see him get so excited about this one book intrigued me. I sat down in one sitting and read it from cover to cover.
The book is called "The Hunger Games." Its the first in a trilogy. It is somewhat science-fiction and takes place in a futuristic society. The protagonist is a 16 year old girl living in poverty who is forced to volunteer to participate in the Hunger Games. (I can't tell you what the Hunger Games is except that is brutal and inhumane. You have to read the book to find out!) There are a wide variety of characters. The plot moves quickly and there is lots of violence, suspense, romance, and drama. There are plenty of core life lessons that are dealt with in the book as well lots of symbolism. All in all, just a very enjoyable, suspenseful, exciting book to read.

If you like The Hunger Games series, you're probably interested in this event at the Palatine Public Library on September 29:

Nice blog Bridge, this looks like a very interesting series. I may be wrong, since I haven't read it, but this book reminds me of Fahrenheit 451. How the book is set in a futuristic society that is treated harshly. And first comment, win.
okay so it wasn't on my list to read it for summer reading but my cousin insisted it was one of the best books he had ever read...and he doesn't read...at all. It was so different than anything i had ever read. It was kind of like America was this one big deadly forest and you have to fight, do some illegal stuff, and lie to stay alive. It was really inhumane and i recommend you read this book.

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
