Protest Songs.

So in class we quickly went over a few protest songs. I do believe Mr.Anderson said that Blowin in the Wind was one of the best. I have decided to post what i think is the best protest song

Here is an interesting and under-rated protest song, "In the Ghetto" by Mac Davis, performed by Elvis Presley. In a bid to become culturally relevant after spending most of the turbulent 1960's making vapid movies, Elvis recorded this song in 1969 to show that he was aware of what was going on in the society around him.

One more Elvis-y thing. In 1968 Elvis made a television special, usually referred to as the "Comeback Special."

He appeared in a black leather and sang a bunch of his early rock hits. At the end of the show, however, he sang a new song "If I Can Dream," a fairly clear reference to Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" terminology.

Elvis never performed this song again, although it has been butchered by Adam Lambert on "American Idol" and a bunch of Elvis impersonators. Here's the real deal:

That's awesome! I did a project on the Vietnam War Protests in 8th grade and I love the music that I came across while researching. My iPod is dominated by Janis Joplin, Hendix, and all that good stuff now.
