Last year's students left you a legacy:  advice for our spring field trip!  (You might also enjoy some of their photo albums.  Take a look.)

  • Bring notes with you or be very familiar with them.
  • Get into the mindset of getting your job done, which is the mindset of most of the people in The Loop.
  • Don’t spend too much time in one place.
  • At the Daley Center, orient your map.  Find North, for example.
  • Some parts of the packet will help you with other parts; don’t overcomplicate it.
  • Enjoy it.  Take your time.
  • Dress in layers.
  • Walk and write at the same time.
  • Lock the bathroom door at the Frank Lloyd Wright house gift shop.
  • Bring a clipboard kind of thing.
  • Take pictures.
  • Wear gym shoes, not flip-flops.
  • Adapt your behavior to your surroundings.
  • Avoid big crowds; it’s probably trouble.
  • Keep focused, even if it’s a crime scene.
  • Look at the Modern Architecture PowerPoint the night before.  Orient to the bottom of the building.
  • In the First 3rd Bank, only photos of the sculpture are allowed.

If you have advice for future students going on this trip, feel free to add it below.

This is very helpful. I cent even explain how excited I am for the field trip!
FInd someone your comfortable with, the bus ride is packed haha
try and get on the bus fast! otherwise you'll end up three to a seat.. not very comfortable

Get what your supposed to get done first and kind of quickly, then take time to explore the city. otherwise your crunched for time.

Definitly be familiar with all the notes. And use the little packet they give you to help answer questions! Answer each question directly, and make sure you don't skip any!

Also ask workers for help! They know a lot about their buildings!

"There are many options out there, but to standardize is to tell a lot of teachers to learn something new or unfamiliar... it's a tricky subject.  That's why I'd love to start my own school, powered by Edmodo, Ning, etc :)"

"I'm overloaded with social networking for school. They should make something exclusively for high school. Million dollar idea right there. Consolidate and simplify. "

9/11 Skylines and Turnstiles

I'm not usually someone who writes a lot , not publicly anyway but I do love to express my self through art, usually visual art but most of the time the art I make is influenced by something . In this case it's a song a written by one of my favorite musicians as a response to the feeling of horror and disbelief as he watched the Twin Towers in New York go from icons to ruins on 9/11/01. The song is sad,…See More
